The Intersection of Art & Science

Questions for Integration…

The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and science.

What are the beliefs and skills surrounding art? Are they different or in harmony with science and is there a cross-section?

I’ve been always fascinated in science as an artist and has purely a human who is naturally curious about existence. What is out there beyond and what’s hidden in our own cells? So many questions and theories have repeatedly kept people like Leonardo Di Vinci, Johannes Kepler, Abraham Maslow and Wassily Kandinsky very busy.

They do both investigate reality in different expressions. I love Kelly Snook’s talk and career in innovating how we express ourselves and discover ourselves through music technology.

Can art be a science? Can science be an art? One studies creation and one creates. They both use creativity to find solutions with the equal aim to make life more fulfilling for all.

And isn’t learning is collaborative? Can we not understand the world better with the lense of both science and art?

Art is defined as

Do you agree with this definition? How can we expand this definition to fit our personal experience with art?

Science is defined as

Again, this definition of science encapsulates the general idea of science. How have you applied the use of scientific experimentation or thinking in your daily life? How has science shown you the magic of the world or told you more about yourself? How does science integrate into your spiritual experience?

Universal Truths…

In my experience…

My love of science started in the high mountain views of my uncle’s balcony in Lake Arrowhead and every chance I could get to explore the parks and pathways of Orange County suburbia. I absolutely LOVED being outside. Earth science was one of my favorite subjects I studied and I was enthralled when I got to spend a week in nature at Outdoor Ed. To me, there is no other beauty than being immersed in nature.

I am a servant to Her beauty. I want to tell Her stories and protect what she has gifted us. That is why I am an artist. That is why I will never stop being enthralled by Her resilience and so I will be to. Resilient. Resilient to anything that stops us from being human, from being a part of the expanse that is Her.

Going back to the beginning, when Albert Einstein spoke of mysteriousness being at the intersection of art and science.

I think this is so profound and mind-tingling. I recently read Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life by Dacher Keltner (this is where I found the Einstein quote). This book was indeed very enlightening on the subject matter of mystery or awe as being both a bodily and spiritual experience. I come back to my notion of science really being a part of the magic that encapsulates our existence. It is art, in the sense that science is part of the creative process.
